David is co-author of the “Engaging for Success” report commissioned by the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills, and is currently Chair of the Task Force on Employee Engagement launched by the Prime Minister at Number 10 in March 2011.
A non-Executive Director of the Ministry of Justice, David is a visiting Professor of the Cass Business School, and Fellow of the Ashridge Business School and Sunningdale Institute.
David is also co-author of “The Extra Mile” – a book on the theme of how to engage your people to win. |

Nita Clarke

Nita Clarke is the Director of the Involvement and Participation Association (IPA). She was vice-chair of the MacLeod Review on employee engagement and continues to work with David MacLeod and the Department for Business on implementing the report's recommendations.
She was formerly the adviser on trade unions to Prime Minister Tony Blair, working as assistant political secretary in the Political Office at 10 Downing Street from January 2001 to June 2007. Her role included liaison with individual unions and the TUC, developing national policy in areas such as the two-tier workforce and work-life balance, supporting ministers by trouble-shooting in industrial disputes. Nita was a senior official with public services union UNISON from 1992 -2001. She is the author of the report The way forward: trade unions and the third sector, commissioned by ACEVO. |

Anthony Thomson

Anthony Thomson is Chairman and Co-Founder of Metro Bank, Chairman of the Financial Services Forum and a non-executive director of teamspirit.
The Financial Services Forum is an independent member-based community for over 300 senior executives with an interest in financial services marketing. The FS Forum exists to help members improve their marketing effectiveness on the basis that good marketing is good for the consumer. Anthony founded the FS Forum in July 2000.
Teamspirit is the UK's leading FS integrated marketing company, part of Chime plc. Anthony joined the board in 2007.
In 1987, he co-founded City Financial Marketing, and - as Group CEO - led it to become the largest specialist FS communications group in Europe. In 1997 he sold the group to Publicis (the world's 4th largest agency group) and took a well-deserved year off, before founding the Financial Services Forum.
From 1983 - 1987 he held various roles with Sun Life of Canada, ultimately as Sales and Marketing Director.
He has held other non-executive roles including Century Life (a Life Assurance group) and Jardine Arber (an actuarial consultancy). |

Dawn Hewins

View Session: Engaging employees to get it right
Dawn joined Stoke-on-Trent City Council in 1994 and started her current role in January 2010 as Assistant Director – HR and Transformation bringing together the Human Resources, Health and Safety, Organisational Development and Transformation sections from across the organisation to focus on leading change.
Due to reduced budgets over 700 people have left the authority during the last 10 months, following a challenging corporate restructuring exercise which Dawn led.
Employee welfare was a key concern and Dawn put initiatives in place to manage the anxiety and stresses for employees during this difficult time. Her efforts were recognised when the city council won the ROSPA Gold Occupational Health Award; Smoke Free Staffordshire Breathe Easy Award and Chamber of Commerce Workplace Health Award. The Best Companies Survey 2010 awarded the Council ‘one to watch’ status for the future.
Born and educated in Stoke-on-Trent, Dawn has a passion for the area and feels lucky to have found a job which she loves. She has been supported by the city council in achieving her CIPD and British Psychological Society Levels A and B, which are put to good use in her role for assessment centres for executive appointments. |

Dr Martin Reddington
Author, Academic Research, and Associate - Edinburgh Napier University
View Session: Organisational Effectiveness and the Employee Value Proposition: breaking the mould
Formerly Global Programme Director, HR Transformation, at Cable & Wireless, Dr Reddington now blends academic research with consultancy. He is a member of the CIPD’s national advisory group on technology and HR, and an expert adviser on HR transformation to the Public Sector People Managers’ Association (PPMA). In 2009, he co-authored a CIPD Research Report which examines the impact of Web 2.0 in organisations and offers guidance to the HR profession on how best to utilise these new technologies.
His latest co-authored book, "HR Transformation: creating value through people" (2nd edition), was published in 2010 and he is now co-editing a forthcoming work, commissioned by the CIPD, which re-imagines the role of HR and OD in support of organisational effectiveness. Dr Reddington is currently working with a number of Blue Chip organisations on the evaluation and re-architecting of the employee value proposition, using a new and compelling approach developed with Dr Helen Francis. |
